Areas of practice
What each area covers, before you search it
Eight areas, each described plainly: what people book it for, what a first appointment is for, and what to ask a practitioner.
Counselling & psychotherapy
Counselling and psychotherapy are structured conversations with a trained practitioner about what is on your mind. Sessions are usually 50 minutes, weekly or fortnightly, in person or online.
Often booked for: relationships, grief and loss, life changes, stress at work, low mood.
Psychology
Psychology is assessment and treatment of psychological concerns by registered health professionals, using evidence-based methods. Some appointments may be eligible for a rebate under a referral; eligibility depends on your circumstances.
Often booked for: anxiety, low mood, trauma, assessment, sleep.

Coaching
Coaching is goal-focused work on direction, performance and change. It is not a treatment for a health condition, and a good practitioner will say when something needs a different kind of support.

Mindfulness & yoga
Mindfulness and yoga sessions teach practices for attention, breathing and movement, one to one or in small groups.
